Duties
Deliver programs of responsibility that reflect the Agency’s vision and mandate for protection, quality visitor experience and public education in accordance with legal obligations and Agency policies and guidelines, including: managing the development, delivery, and integration of the national park ecosystem-based management programs (including EI monitoring, applied science and active management activities) to maintain and improve ecological integrity; managing the development and delivery of a cross-functional visitor-risk management and incident management and response approach for fire operations and visitor safety; ensuring the provision of field unit-wide geomatic services; accountability for cultural resource management in national parks; and supporting development of field unit communication strategies and products. Program and operational issues and challenges are generally characterizes by high complexity and scope.
Work environment
This position is based in Inuvik; Canada’s largest community north of the Arctic Circle. A hub for the Western Arctic region, Inuvik offers unrivalled opportunities to experience Canada’s unique northern cultures and some of the world’s greatest natural landscapes. An acceptable combination of a degree, training and experience OR graduation with a degree from a recognized university in natural resource management or natural sciences. Proof of education to be submitted with your application.
Degree equivalency
- *Recent & significant experience in planning, managing and implementing natural & cultural resource management and visitor safety programs;
- Experience interacting with and presenting results to Indigenous partners, cooperative management bodies and various levels of government to develop relationships, agreements and make decisions;
- Experience working with partners, including ENGOs, the academic community and local communities, to develop and deliver resource conservation programs;
- Experience providing strategic resource management advice to senior managers and partner organizations;
- Experience managing and developing staff, managing budgets and strategic work planning.
- Recent and significant is defined by a minimum of 5 years within the last 10 years.

Information on language requirements
- Knowledge of conservation priorities, issues, legislation, policies and programs of the Government of Canada and the Parks Canada Agency;
- Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management issues, challenges and opportunities in the North;
- Knowledge of visitor safety and visitor risk management, planning and procedures, including search and rescue operations;
- Knowledge of Indigenous land claim agreements and cooperative management principles and practices in the Western Arctic.
- Ability to analyze and critically assess natural and cultural resource management issues and work collaboratively with others to identify and implement solutions;
- Ability to manage, develop and motivate teams of professional and technical staff;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to different audiences and provide strategic advice to senior managers and cooperative management partners;
- Ability to lead and work effectively within multidisciplinary and cross-cultural settings involving a range of Indigenous groups, government, cooperative management bodies and other partners and stakeholders.
