Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a scientist to join our analytical group within ECD who are dedicated to the development of control strategies and the accompanying analytical methods to enable the development of manufacturing routes for clinical active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) at AstraZeneca across a range of small and large molecules.
We’re looking for an outstanding scientist who is enthusiastic, motivated, with a strong desire to learn and looking to establish an important and rewarding career within the pharmaceutical industry.
Our successful candidate will be considered for a role either at Scientist or Senior Scientist level, according to candidate experience. Where possible, will aim to determine the most suitable level individual candidates are positioned at ahead of panel interviews.
Scientist / Senior Scientist – Pharmaceutical Sciences
What You’ll Do
Work on developing ECD analytical testing capabilities, development and validation of analytical methodologies.
Collaborate with process chemists and external partners to drive our understanding of manufacturing processes and control strategies.
Plan and execute lab-based experimental work in accordance with project timelines.
Interpret analytical data and draw reliable conclusions to influence future work.
Use technical knowledge and understanding to contribute to improvement projects and the evaluation of groundbreaking technologies.
Enhance ECD and AstraZeneca’s scientific reputation by sharing knowledge internally, publishing high calibre research and engaging in external collaborations.
Ensure that work is in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) guidelines, quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
Scientist
To be considered at Scientist level, you will meet the following criteria:
Essential Criteria
BSc (or equivalent) level education in a relevant discipline with experience of working within an analytical laboratory.
Understanding of a range of analytical technologies, especially LC, MS and NMR
A rational and logical approach to decision-making and problem-solving; the ability to make judgements based on sound reasoning and data.
Self-motivated and systematic approach to work and delivering to deadlines.
Great communication skills (written and spoken).
A thorough understanding of the principles and management of SHE and cGMP.
Desirable Criteria
Relevant chemistry understanding applicable to enhance the development of analytical control strategies.
Evidence of ability to collaborate and work optimally within teams.
Scientist / Senior Scientist – Pharmaceutical Sciences
Senior Scientist
In addition to the above expectations for the Scientist position, to be considered at Senior Scientist level you will also meet the following additional criteria:
Essential Criteria
PhD (or equivalent) level education in a relevant discipline or BSc with significant experience of working within an analytical laboratory.
Ability to challenge the status quo and look for novel solutions.
Desirable Criteria
Experience of leading drug development projects and developing control strategies.
Depth of knowledge in chromatography, NMR and mass spectrometry.
A good understanding of control strategies to define the requirements for ensuring the quality of drug substance.
Eligibility
In April 2024, the Home Office increased the salary threshold requirements for Skilled Worker Visas to £38,700 – Should you require a skilled worker visa, please be advised that the base salary range for the Scientist level position may not meet the minimum salary requirement.
