The Role
ORCID is seeking a Financial Controller to support it’s mission and global growth. The Financial Controller is responsible for leading ORCID’s finance and accounting, budgeting and planning, and treasury management functions.

This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations and is part of the Operations team.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and Communications. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, you will manage, streamline and optimize our financial processes and proactively guide and educate staff on financial management, process and procedure to support their fulfillment of their own responsibilities and goals. You will oversee and support the accounting function with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
- Financial Reporting & Analysis. Establish (in coordination with the Director of Finance and Operations) financial and operating budgets and meet reporting standards on monthly and annual bases, including:
- Ensuring timely month-end closing of books (generally 4 business days after prior month end), including preparation and posting of all journal entries and issuance of internal financial statements and reports to the Senior Team to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth.
- Assisting the Director of Finance and Operations with the annual budgeting process
- Lead the annual audit by maintaining required audit schedules, liaising with external auditors, providing requested documents answering their queries
- Fulfill tax reporting compliance requirements including annual form 990 preparation (in conjunction with the external auditors) end of year 1099s, and similar
- Prepare other reports as needed.
- Internal Safeguards. Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines for revenue receipts, costs, organizational budgets and actual expenditures, including reconciliation of all bank accounts and ORCID credit card balances monthly, and other balance sheet accounts as appropriate. Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures, adhering to international and local regulatory standards. Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
- A/R and A/P. Enter all receivables and payables into the accounting system in a timely manner. Maintain all vendor/customer financial records. Process staff expense reports, pay bills, create invoices, and record deposits into the accounting system.
- Payroll. In support of Operations Coordinator, assist with payroll management as required and record payroll entries into the accounting system.
- Organizational Business Address. Manage traditional mail received at our contracted business address, and in support of treasury management and bank relations, manage check deposits and other financial transactions that might arrive in mail.
- General Ledger. Own the accounting system, including maintenance of the chart of accounts, vendors, and related system information.
- Change Agent. Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to our current organizational landscape. Maximize finance and accounting efficiency through innovative process development. Support the organizations short- and long-term operational strategies through intelligent, forward thinking financial management
- Special Projects. Support the Director of Finance and Operations with any special projects related to finance and accounting at ORCID. On an ongoing basis, review accounting processes for compliance and efficiency.
As with all roles at ORCID, this position requires the ability to work independently for long periods of time, the ability to spend significant amounts of time at a computer screen, and the ability to embark on occasional long-distance travel.

Requirements
- Experience working and engaging in global, multicultural, and virtual team environments
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple demands and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Seven or more years of professional accounting experience with four or more years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
- Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills, translating financial analysis, issues and requirements into understandable information for non-financial individuals
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial analysis
- Working knowledge of international and US regulations and compliance reporting
- Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes
- Tech savvy and the ability to learn and administer new systems and tools quickly. Direct experience with QuickBooks online, salesforce, Expensify preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field
- Fluency in English required. Additional languages a plus.
- Ability to travel based upon business needs (less than 10%)
