Duties
The successful candidate will assist the Resource Conservation team in monitoring the health of the park ecosystem, assessing the status of species-at-risk, and completing restoration programs. This work involves visiting less-traveled areas of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, both on land and in water. This opportunity offers a chance to get to know this beautiful and unique area while developing hands-on skills.
Assist park staff in:
- Forest, aquatic and vegetation surveys in remote sites;
- Measuring and recording biological data, including handling live specimens;
- Entering data into computer databases;
- Maintaining, cleaning and repairing field equipment;
- Control of invasive species;
- Other related tasks.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
Maintenance of a valid class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License, or other provincial equivalency.
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment.
Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.
Work may involve handling dead specimens and use of standard zoological preservatives.
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks.
